MySpace, dating sites… the internet period can be very dangerous for children, but there is a solution at our fingertips.

I was speaking with a friend who has a 15-year-old daughter. A while back they had a huge issue with MySpace and the internet overall. Her daughter was meeting people off the Internet at the park by her house.

The last guy she met at the park was 57 and a convicted pedophile. The daughter happened to tell one of her friend’s, who thankfully was smart enough to tell her parents, who in turn told her friend’s parents. My friend and her husband watched the park for hours. Sure enough there her daughter was and minutes later an old man. The reality of the situation is, had the girl not told her Mother, this girl probably would be raped and possibly even dead.

Her daughter needs to use the computer for reports and such for school so taking it away all together wasn’t really an option. So instead she invested $50 for a program called Big Brother. The program tracks the moves of someone when they are on the computer. It keeps all of the conversations and then you will know what your child is really doing while they are on the computer.

We can’t completely blame sites such as MySpace and others like it because it is our job as parents to monitor what sites our children are visiting and what they are doing. It has become abundantly clear that nobody is going to be able to put a stop to these types of sites. Therefore it is our job as parents to keep our loved ones safe.

If you have a child and they frequent the computer, Big Brother monitoring is the best investment you can make for your child’s safety.
