In an interesting twist the federal agency charged with protecting consumers from internet scams, now finds themselves wrapped up in one.
Identity thieves have been sending thousands of scam e-mails acting as the Federal Trade Commission - the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department - attempting to trick consumers into parting with their personal financial information.
These agencies are the lastest in a long list of institutions to be exploited in “phishing” scams…

I work for an email filtering company called emailcloud.com. We scan email for SME’s based in the UK, Ireland and Canada.
We are seeing anything from 2-5% of all spam from the phishing variety…it is a large and growing type of spam.
I can see it growing as it has proven to work!
